Walking with Control

A few thoughts about control while taking a stroll

Man's encroachment on nature.

During a walk, I see a section of plantings with a large cage of fencing wrapped around it as they try to prevent deer from snacking on what they've planted in the earth.

I see a white sign with black figures on it spelling out 5G behind a red circle and slash. Technology in the 5G network, the tower unwanted.

On this walk I feel a slight breeze. The breeze puts a chill in the air. On another day when the temperature is well above this abnormally cool day, that breeze would be a respite. Today, I fortify myself with a jacket to make sure I am not made to feel uncomfortable.

The wind at a breeze makes the branches dance lightly.

The wind at a gale could potentially bring the tree down.

And we think we have control.

What we can't control, we run from. or we resist.

What we can control can be misread.

And oftentimes I think it's in that space - the misreading of what is really within our grasp and what's not, and the running or fighting from things that seem out of our control - it's in that space that we find ourselves in difficulty.

So if we were to turn to a place where we tried to control less, would that imply giving up?

No.

Giving up what is fruitless, maybe. But Lord knows that could open up new places where we can feel connected with things around us while still moving forward in a way that feels enriching.
